I recently visited with one market grower, my own sister Tracy Fajkus, who sells at the Smithville and Bastrop markets to see how her garden grows. By using trench watering methods, she and her husband Robert are able to maintain rapid and lush growth in the many varieties of vegetables they grow-potatoes, onions, peppers, tomatoes, beans and many kinds of gourds. They also have chickens, duck and geese to help control the bugs and provide eggs. Lots of hard work but even more good food. So, stop by the Smithville Farmer’s Market on Thursday afternoons or Bastrop on Fridays. Or visit any of the following:
