February 2010

Early, early Spring 2010

The rains keep on coming and coming. Wonderful for the aquifers and lake levels. A bit hard on the pastures and the ability to get around.

Visit me at the new Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market, 1302 Chestnut Street at the Railroad Tracks.
Friday 2:30 - 6 pm  and Saturday 10 am -2 pm.

The Market continues to surprise me in the quantity and quality of the fresh vegetables offered every time I go to market. How do these farmers do it? Continue in the face of such hard times and bring such good food to market. Come check it out for yourself. You will be amazed and even grateful for all their hard work.

Time to start thinking about a spring garden. Do think about a raised garden or planting in containers so that excessive rain water will not drown your plants. They need to breathe too.

Late winter crops are here, great quantities of cool weather leafy greens-lettuce, radishes, kale, spinach, cabbage, collards, Chinese cabbage and greens such as Bok Choi, Pak Cho, and so much more.

Basil, a wonderful, tasty
warm-weather herb. Easy to grow inside over the winter. Just potted up some new plants for sale in March at the Bastrop 1832 farmers Market. Several varieties: Sweet, Lemon, Cinnamon, Red and Thai.
